If you’re suddenly hearing Elsa singing “Let it go, let it go” in your head right now, don’t worry, I hear it too! (You’re not going mad)
Unlike the fabled Disney fairytale, Frozen, addiction is a cold hard reality firmly set in the real world. As much as we’d love to wave a magical wand at our problems to make it go away, retreating into fantasy or relying solely on ourselves will only make things worse.
We need to let go of our enabling ways and empower our suffering loved ones. We must stand firm in the Word and co-labour with God to take a stand against this affliction.
We’ve learned so far that discipline and obedience are corner stones in the house of recovery, for both the addict and the family member. We also know that we must teach discipline and obedience out of a deep and sincere place of love. Read what the apostle John wrote about this…
“And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love.” 2 John 1:6
And there it is – love is being obedient to God’s commands!
Therefore, our best possible strategy in all we endeavor to do, is to follow His commands.
Thank you God for leaving us with an Awesome instruction manual that is not based on fairytales to guide us through this troublesome world!
Look at the clouds in the graphic and go and dig into those scriptures written on them.
