Many of you have heard about the 12 Steps. For those of you not familiar with the ins and outs of addiction, the 12 steps are a set of guiding principles outlining a course of action for recovery from addiction. They are essential to recovery as they provide the foundation we need to grow and learn from. This week we have begun a series of lectures where we are taking on the 12 steps systematically in a group setting.
We are busy getting deep into Step 1 which deals with admitting powerlessness over our addiction and that our lives had become unmanageable wrecks. Often in the early stages of recovery we tend to minimize the harmful impact our using had on ourselves and others.
Step 1 breaks down the denial, begins the process of surrendering and prepares us to listen to wisdom and not our own self will.
